COMMUNITY SING FOR RELIEF OF DISTRESS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I would like to draw the attention of your readers to the community sing at the Opera House on Thursday next at 7.30 p.m. This entertainment has been arranged by Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., to raise funds for the Central Relief Committee. Funds to purchase rations for the food depot are most urgently needed, as a very largo number of our male population are unemployed, and week by week as the depression drags on more are driven by force of circumstances to seek assistance from the relief depots. This community sing provides one of the means whereby our more fortunate citizens can help the relief funds. With such song leaders as Messrs Owen Pritchard and Frank Crowther, there will be no dull moments. In addition there will be a number of items by several well-known local artists. An excellent night’s entertainment is to be provided for -the modest sum of one shilling, which is the charge being made to all parts of the Opera House. We are hoping a large number of citizens will attend and bring their song books, availing themselves of this opportunity of spending an enjoyable evening and assist in alleviating the distress now being felt by hundreds of our citizens a.nd their families. —I am, etc., B MAN SFORD, MAYOR. Palmerston North, Sept. 28, 1932.
