MAGISTRATE’S COURT. In a defended action before Mr It. M. Watson, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, Reginald Vautier (Mr Relling) was charged by the ranger of the Oroua County Council, Mr J. PJepson, with allowing cattle to wander unattended on the Manawatu Gorge highway on September 8. The circumstances relating to the charge were detailed by the inspector, and after hearing considerable evidence brought forward by counsel for defendant, the Magistrate held that the charge had not been proved and dismissed the information. CHELTENHAM RIFLE CLUB. Mr H. Wood presided, at a meeting of the Cheltenham Rifle Club on Saturday night, when it was decided to affiliate with the National Rifle Association. A committee consisting or Messrs J. Whitehead, F. Mills and E. Barron was set up to draw up rules for a B grade competition. The club decided to purchase A and B grade trophies, to be tired for with club ammunition only. As soon as the present white targets are worn out the club is to revert to coloured ones. Limits were fixed as follow: For seven-shot matches, 98; for 200 and 300 yards, no limits; tor 500 and 600 .yards, 95. The club will open its season on October 1 with a sweepstake match over ranges of 500 and 600 yards. Mr H. V. Shannon was thanked for his services to the club. NOTES. The intersection of Grey and Beattie Streets was the scene of a collision between a motor car and a motor cycle last night. Both vehicles were considerably damaged as the result of the impact, the cycle suffering the greater damage, but neither the rider of the latter nor the occupants of the car were injured. This particular corner has been the scene of previous motor collisions, the visibility from the Denbigh Street approach being somewhat obscured.
