LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
GATHERING OF ASSEMBLY. Received September 27, 9.25 a.m. GENEVA, Sept. 26. M. Politis (Greece) was elected president of the Assembly of the League of Nations. Sir Thomas Wilford represents New Zealand on all the committees. UNPAID SUBSCRIPTIONS. LONDON, Sept. 26. The Geneva correspondent of the Daily Express, referring to the crisis in the League of Nations’ financial affairs, states that the League Council has been officially informed that another such year as the last will cause the League to go into bankruptcy. The current vear started with £944,000 owing to tire League._ Only eleven countries out of fifty-six have paid in full for the current year. Britain is the largest subscriber with £ 782,000, which has been paid, but France, Italy, Japan, the South American republics,- New Zealand, and Australia all owe money. Thus far only 43 per cent, of the subscriptions has been paid. The League expects France, Italy, and Japan to pay, but the majority of the others are considered doubtful or bad.
