TIAKITAHUNA

(From Our Own Correspondent). TIAKITAI-lUNA, Sept. 16. There was a very large gathering; in the hall on Wednesday evening when the Women’s Institute held a concert and nance, members from other institutes being present. The hall was beautifully decorated with nalive flora and festoons of tangerine and black (the institute’s colours) wore hung on the walls amongst the greenery. Howls of paper oriental poppies (the institute’s emblem) were placed on the stage and also amongst the greenery, which was placed in tubs covered with tangerine and black paper. The same coloured streamers were hung from the lights of the hall, this giving a very pretty effect. Mesdamcs Richardson and Sutton were in charge of a sweets, soft drink and produce stall; this was also decorated witli the colours, while vases of tangerine Iceland poppies were placed at each end. A cake donated by Mrs D. Rowland was won by Mrs Jgglestori and Mr W. Wendell. Mrs D. Buchanan won another prize. A nail-driving competition was won by Mrs Bindon and Mr W. Weddell. The statue waltz was won by Mr D. MoMurray and Miss Sexton. The concert programme, which was most entertaining, was a follows: —Mrs Fell, song; Miss Davey, character sketch; playette, “Taking the Census,” local institute’ members, Misses J. Strachan, J. Ferguson, M. Rowland and J. Morley; Mr and Mrs Prince, song; Miss Davey, elocutionary item; Mrs Croucher. song; playette, “At the Theatre,” Oroua Downs Institute members, Misses Davey (2), Sexton (2), Jarvis and Mrs Hobbs; Mr K. Nielsen, song; Mrs Fell, song; playette, “The Baby Show,” local institute members, Airs E. Vautier, Misses M. Morley, F. Jeffrey and J. Strachan. Community singing was lod by Mr and Mrs Prince, of Wbakarongo. A very dainty supper was provided by institute members. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs Prince, Miss E. Jeffrey and Mrs Vautier. Mrs Croucher and Ml’S H. McEwen were in charge of the door. The M.C.’s were Mrs Davies and Miss Jeffrey. The next meeting will be held on the 29th inst. A competition will be held, six eggs to be judged by weight. Mrs and Miss Strachan, who have been spending a few months holiday with Mrs Vautier, left for their home in Roxborough on Thursday.
