ARAPUNI WORKS.
REFILLING OF HEADRACE.
AUCKLAND, Sept. 14. The final stage in the restoration of the Arapuni hydro-electric works, following the fracture in the lining of the headrace, was reached this evening when the refilling of the headrace was completed and water again poured over the spillway and falls. The repair work lias stood up very satisfactorily to the pressure of water. _ . Owing to a heavy fall of ram in the watershed of the upper reaches of the Waikato River last night, the headrace filled more rapidly than was expected. A fall of 2ft 9in in the normal level of the Waikato River was noted to-day. It is- not expected that it will fall further, but that the river will liegin to rise again now that the full flow is finding its way back into the river bed below the power works. 1 lans are being prepared for the construction of an island coffer dam by means of which it is intended to examine the floor of the headrace at Arapuni in case there are any other fractures.
