PALMERSTON CLUB'S ANNUAL

REPORT.

The report to be presented to members at tii© annual, meeting of the Palmerston Cricket Club reviews the past season, insofar as the club is concerned, as under: —“One senior and one junior team was entered in the competitions controlled by the Alanawatlu Cricket Association. The seniors again had an auspicious record, winning the championship. The team played nine games, winning seven, drawing one and losing one. It is interesting to note that, although the club won the championship, the batting aggregate is the lowest of the four teams. \Ye undoubtedly owe our position to the dogged determination of two players, Messrs Norris and Hollier, who made most of the runs, and made them when needed. During the season Air Hollier made two centuries and Air Norris one. The howling and fielding performances fell short of the standard reached by previous teams. We were most fortunate in having a worthy successor to Air Ongley. Air Norris, the skipper, at all times led his men in a masterly fashion, and the success of the team was in no small measure due to his leadership. It is pleasing to noto that all members intend turning out again this season. The juniors are improving each year. The team played twenty games, winning eight, drawing seven and loosing five. Air Alabey and Air Childs had the honour of returning centuries, while there were many other splendid performances with both bat and ball. The bat presented by. Air Ongley for competition among the juniors, which was awarded on the handicapping system, was won by Air H. Childs. Prospects for tire coming season aro bright, and indications are that the strength of the club will be more than maintained. The best senior club averages were:—Batting : AV. Norris, 534 runs, with an average of 59.3; G. Hollier, 038 runs, 54.5: G. Berquist, 226 runs, 22.6. Bowling: N. Leet, 20 wickets, with an average of 15.4; G. Berquist, 19 wickets, 21.1. Tims Air Norris wins the Captain Alitchell Challenge Cup and Mr Leet the Louisson Challenge Cup. AVo extend our congratulations to Alessrs Norris (captain), AlcVicar and Berquist, who represented Manawatu in the Hawke Cup game. The club’s finances are in a very satisfactory position, duo to the fact that our account for material was kept as low as possible. The system of ground fees adopted by the Manawatu Association last year has proved very beneficial. In conclusion, the committee wish to place on record the assistance rendered to the club by its officers, especially Alessrs Louisson, Pegden, Bennett and Greer for their donations. Our thanks are also due to those ladies who have assisted us with the afternoon tea.”
