GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
MANAWATU LADIES’ TOURNEY
SECOND ROUND DECIDED
Tho Alanawatu Ladies’ Golf Club's open tournament was continued at tire Hokowliitu links yesterday, afternoon, when the second rounds of the championship and Hokowliitu Handicap were decided. Light showers of rain made tho course slower than on the opening day, but it was, nevertheless, in first-class order.
The most important match was that in which Mrs H. Collinson defeated Miss S. Watson, a strong contender for tho honours. Tho defeat of Mrs Rota, the powerful driving Hawera player, came as a surprise. Details of the second round matches were as follow: CHAMPIONSHIP.
Miss B. Gaisford (Marton) beat Miss Ormond (Napier) 5 and 4. Miss McKenzie (Rangitikei) beat Mrs Rota (Hawera) 3 and 1. Miss M. Guy (Manawatu) beat Airs D. Collins (Wairarapa) 4 and 3. Airs H. Collinson (Alanawatu) beat Aliss S. Watson (Alanawatu) 2 and 1.
HOKOWHITU HANDICAP
Aliss Jepson (14) beat Aliss Grace (10) 7 and 5. Aliss Dudding (9) beat Airs AlcDonell (10) 0 and 5. Airs Field (9) beat Aliss Openshaw (11) 5 and 3. Aliss Garner (11) beat Airs Dorrington (10) 7 and 5. AIEDAL HANDICAP.
A medal handicap was played in the morning, the first grade being won by Airs A. E. Ekstedt 91—1:5—70 with Aliss AI. Garner 91 —15—70 second, the decision being over the last nine holes. The second division was won by Aliss J. Spring, 96 —24 —72 with Airs Gabriel 100—27 —73 and Airs A. AlcKegg, 100 —27 —73 in second place, equal.
BOGEY HANDICAP
The afternoon bogey handicap was won by Aliss 3. Robertson 2 up (first division! and Airs Speechley 3 up (second division). NOTES ON PLAY.
There was a very even match up to the 13th hole in the championship game between Airs Collinson and Aliss
Watson. Both were playing fair golf, and Aliss AVatson was out in 41. Airs Collinson took 42, but prevailed at the final. Aliss Guy had a meritorious win over an experienced and formidable opponent in Airs Collins.
PALMERSTON NORTH GOLF CLUB
LADIES’ HANDICAP
Lady members of tho Palmerston North" Golf Club played a bogey handicap at To Alatai this week, tho best cards handed in being: Aliss Hollicr all squaro, Aliss Spensle.v 5 down. Airs B. Simpson 6 down, Airs AlcMurray 6 down. The junior flag competition over nine holes was won by Airs E. Simpson.
On Saturday a team of lady golfers from the Shannon Club will visit the To Alatai links.
The following is the draw for tho first round of the ladies’ club championship cup, the trophy having been donated by Ford Alotors (Manawatu), Ltd.:— Aliss Jepson v. Aliss Landers. Airs Anstis v.
