DEFICIT FOR PAST YEAR
NEW TAXATION PROPOSED
MORE PAYERS OF INCOME TAX.

The Premier and Treasurer, Sir Stanley Argyle, who delivered the Budget speech in the Assembly, stated that the financial year to Juno 30 closed with a deficit of £1,608,322. The deficit for the current financial year is estimated at £851,000. New taxation totalling £299,500 is proposed. An extension of tile incomo tax, to bring under the scopo of the Act 390,000 additional taxpayers, the exemption being £IOO instead of £2OO, is to yield £232,000. An additional betting tax is to return £30,000 and increased stamp duties £37,500. The taxation reductions include a 10 per cent, drop in the unemployment relief tax.
