SUMMER SPORT.

CITY COUNCIL CRICKET CLUB

REVIEW OF PAST SEASON

The annual report of the City Council Cricket Club reviews the past season in interesting manner. It reads: “The club enjoyed a most satisfactory season, both as regards the success achieved by the team and the interest and enthusiasm displayed by the members. Although not successful in securing competition honours, we heartily congratulate Y.M.C.A. Club on winning the junior competition, and also the Palmerston North Club, winners of the senior division. It is unfortunate that such keenness and enthusiasm as was displayed by T the team was not favoured with greater success. Although the eleven finished lower on the ladder than was the case in the previous year, it nevertheless gave some splendid exhibitions, haying inflicted a defeat on the competition leaders and emerged unbeaten in the final round of the competition. As most of the personnel of last year’s team are again playing, we can look forward with confidence to better results in the coming season. The following represented Manawatu on various occasions: —E. Morgan, C. Turner, H. Lane and J. Gavey.

“The club’s finances are in a very satisfactory 7 condition, and the Manawatu Cricket Association are to be congratulated on the system introduced for the collection of ground fees; this undoubtedly assisted clubs immensely 7. It is anticipated that with the previous support obtained from members, no difficulty 7 will be encountered in the collection of the subscriptions. Thanks are due to the ladies who kindly assisted with the afternoon tea arrangements, and the committee desire to place on record their appreciation of their services.”

We also held two closing gala day bowling tournaments which were well patronised, and we extend thanks to the sister clubs for their support.
