(From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Sept. 14. The Apiti YY'omen’s Institute celebrated its second birthday on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Churchill (president) extended a special wolcome to the members of tho sister institutes of Kimbolton and Rangiwahia, who were present. Eileen YY’iklbore then presented tho president with a posy of violets. A small amount of business was gono through, next month’s programme arranged, apologies and congratulations from absent members read, Airs Churchill tendered her resignation. Two enjoyable items were rendered by members of tho glee circle, Musical parcel was played, Airs Jensen being the winner and folk-dancing was done by members of tho local institute, followed hv a competition won by Airs Cheseldine (Kimbolton). A one-act farco was staged, with Airs Churchill, Airs J. Jensen and Airs Duncan in the parts. Tho acting and the costumes convulsed the audience. Afternoon tea was served in the supper room and tho birthday cake, which was decorated with violas, tho institute’s flower, was cut by the president, who called upon Airs Duncan, senr., the oldest member, to light tho candles, and Miss D. Pratt, the youngest member, to blow them out, Alore community folk dancing was indulged in and much enjoyed. At an opportune moment. Airs C. AI. Stanley called upon Mrs Churchill to accept on behalf of the institute members an oak tea w r aggon, with very host wishes. Airs Stanley referred to the work and time Airs Churchill had given in the interest of the institute since its inception. Alembers generally regretted losing the president. Airs Churchill returned thanks for the good wishes and the gift, saying that she had much enjoyed the privilege of being connected with tho institute Mid she hoped that the spirit of cooperation and goodwill would continue She would endeavour to keep in touch with its interests and activities. Airs Guthrie, president of the Rangiwahia Institute thanked the Apiti Institute for the invitation to be present, and paid a tribute to the ability of Mrs Churchill, whose loss to Apiti she felt sure, would bo a great gain to Bulls. Votes of thanks wero passed to all those who assisted, tho hostesses, the entertainers Airs AlcAlurtrie, sen., for wood supplied; Mr's Havell for the making of tho birthday cake- Airs Duncnn, icing and decorating; Aire R. Thomas and Miss Beard lor a cake as a prize, which was won by Airs Rielly, Ra \t S "a a special meeting of the committee of'tho R.S.A., held last Friday, Mr A. L. Prujean presided. The resignations of Alessrs YY T illiamson and Churchill were received with regret, and a resolution was passed that the good work done, by them bo recorded in the minutes. Air YV. McKenzie, junr., was appointed secretary with Mr YV H Y\ T atson assistant, Air J. R- Stewart to' fill the other vacancy. Mr F™jean took the opportunity of presenting Mr Church, ill on behalf of the committee, w ith a gold mounted fountain pen. He stated that they felt they could not allow Mr Churchill, who had been secretary since the inception of this branch, to take his departure without recognising in a small way the amount o? work he had done during his term o i-vPRro and remarked that it was to a great extent the capibilities of Air Churchill that the financial position was so satisfactory. Messrs J. YVatt. A. London and YY . H. YY at‘on endorsed the remarks of the president. In returning thanks for the gift, Mr Churchill said he much appreciated the kindly remarks of his fellow members.
