“NOTHING CUT AND DRIED.”
POSITION OF APPRENTICES. M.P. s GIVE EMPHATIC DENIAL. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 26. An emphatic denial to allegations that legislation to amend the Apprentices Act had already been framed and that the conference they had called waa simply for the purpose of “cultivating public opinion” was given by Messrs S. G. Smith and A. E. An.sell. the two members of Parliament who a-e co-operating with the Unemployment Board, when speaking at a conference with employees ar.d employers representatives yesterday. The suggestion that the conference was the forerunner of something that was to be introduced during the next session of Parliament was made by Mr G. T. Thurston, secretary of the Engineers and Allied Trades T.nion, but an assurance was given by both members that there was “nothing cut and dried.”
