PROTECTION ON WHEAT.
M.P.’S OPINION
Per Press Association
HAMILTON, Aug. 24. Commenting to a reporter to-day that tho present protection meant a much dearer loaf for New Zealand, Mr P. A. do la Porclle, M.P. for Avarua, said: “I think tho wheat duties will have to bo abolished.”
Mr Perello added that he had come to tho conclusion that if any assistance is given to tho New Zealand wheatgrowers it must be much more limited. “If the wheat farmers are given protection, why not those who raise barley or oats?” he asked.
