OBITUARY.

MRS G. H. BLANCHE. The death occurred on Tuesday, following a long and painful illness, of Mrs Jane Alice Blanche, of Monrad Street. The deceased lady was a member of a family well-known in this district. A daughter of Mrs H. S. Buick and the late Mr James Buick, she was born at Belmont, Lower Hutt, but spent tho major portion of her lifetime in the Manawatu, Mr and Mrs Buick having removed to Tiakitahuna when Mrs Blanche was a child of four years. Deceased went south to bo married to Mr Blancho in 1896, tho ceremony being solemnised at Christchurch, and they continued to reside in that city for two years. They then returned to this district and for some years were residents of Tiakitahuna prior to removing to tho corner of Foxton Line and Monrad Street. Mrs Blanche’s health had been indifferent for a considerable time. In addition to the husband there are left to mourn their loss five brothers and four sisters—Messrs William, James and David Buick, of Tiakitahuna, Mr Henry Buick, of Johnsonvillo, Mr Alexander Buick, of Kauwliata, and Mesdames W. Edwards of Church Street, R. J. Seddon, of Tiakitahuna, J. Crothers, of Wanganui, and E. Irwin, of Dannevirke. One brother, Mr Thomas Buick, predeceased his sister just six months ago. The funeral yesterday afternoon, found a largo.number of friends present to pay their last respects. Rev. L. G. B. Whitehead conducted the service.

MRS ELIZABETH CURREGH. By tho death of Mrs Elizabeth Curregh, of St. Albans, Christchurch, which occurred on July 13, tho Dominion loses one of its older residents. The deceased lady, who was born at Sunderland, England, 85 years ago, came to tho Dominion in company with her parents when a girl in the sailing ship Clontarf, on which a wellknown Palmerston North resident, Mr H. Billens, was a fellow passenger. Prior to leaving England, deceased’s father, Mr Slater, had been chief pilot at Sunderland, but he relinquished his calling to try his fortuno overseas. Landing at Lyttelton in 1859, Mr and Mrs Slater and the two daughters of the family immediately proceeded to Gabriel’s Gully in tho gold rush days and Mrs Curregh spent her early days in Central Otago. She married at Lawrence in 1804, but the greater part of her married life was spent at Akaroa. She had made Christchurch her homo for the past 18 months. Of a gentle and kindly disposition, Mrs Curregh made many friends and her passing was deeply regretted by all who knew her. Tho deceased came from a family noted for its longevity, both her parents having attained the great age of 90 years. Mrs E. C. Green, of 85 Ruahine Street, is deceased’s only child. Mrs Curregh’s only sister died in .1904.
