OBITUARY.

MR T. MAKITINARA M.P. Per Press Association. LEVIN, June 25. The death occurred late last night at his residence at Hokio of Mr Tuiti Makitinara, M.P., for the southern Maori electorate since 1928. Before entering Parliament he was engaged in practice as a Native Land Court agent and had a wide knowledge of Maori succession matters. MR F. W. POWELL. One of the descendants of a wellknown family of pioneer days, Mr F. W. Powell, died at his home in Homewood Crescent, Karori, Wellington, on Tuesday last. Mr Powell was born in Wanganui in 1859. and was the son of Mr Thomas Powell, who arrived from India and settled in Wanganui in the early days. Ho was educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School, and took an active part in all kinds of sport. For many years Mr Powell was an officer of the Bank of New South Wales in Wanganui, Auckland and Wellington, and was known by all who came in contact with him for his sterling qualities. While in Wanganui, in his younger days, he was a keen church worker at the parish church of Christ Church, and held the office of churchwarden. He leaves a widow and three daughters, his only son having lost his life at Gallipoli. The funeral took place yesterday morning. Canon G. Y. Woodward, of Palmerston' North, son-in-law of the deceased, assisted by Rev. F. M. Kempthorne, vicar of Karori, conducted an impressive service at St. Mary’s Church, Wellington.
