MICE CAUSE TRAGEDY.

BROTHER AND SISTER DEAD. Mice gnawing through a gas pipe caused the deaths of Mr William Fiddes, aged 67, nnd Miss Elizabeth Fiddes, aged 69, his sister, at their homo in St. Bernard's Crescent, Edinburgh. Mr J. Russell, the landlord, got no answer when he knocked to collect the rent. As the door was unfastened ho went in and found Mr Fiddes dead in an armchair and his sister dead on the floor.

Workmen from the corporation gas department found that a pipe under the floor had been gnawed through by mice, thus allowing the gas to escape and, it is believed, to cause the two deaths. The house was lighted by electricity, and gas had not been used for some* time, hut tho old gas pipes had not been removed.
