(From Our Own Correspondent.) LINTON, June 24
The monthly meeting of the Farmers’ Union was held last Wednesday evening, Mr L. Ballinger presiding in the absence of Mr G. Greer. It was decided to write Mr W. W. Smith expressing sympathy over the loss of his residence by firo recently. It was proposed to have, if possiblo, an address at the next meeting on “Farm Accounting,” also at a later date a lecture on lubrication of all farm machinery. Mr Ballinger, who was the delegate to the provincial conference held at Feilding, presented his report.
Members of tho Women’s Institute held a meeting on Wednesday afternoon at tho residence of Mrs D. Gurrin to form a Drama Club. Two short plays were read, “In the Moonlight” and “The Dear Departed.” Afternoon tea was provided by the hostess, Mrs Gurrin. Influenza and colds are very prevalent throughout _ the district, the school attendance suffering considerably as a result of these and the very wet weather during the past week. Tho opening of the recently formed Miniature Kifle Club was held on Thursday night, there being a good attendance.
