MR WILLIS’S STATEMENT. Received May 19, 10.0 a.m. * LONDON, May 18. Mr Willis has cabled a reply to Mr (Stevens, but he declines to disclose tlie contents of the message. In a statement published in the Press, Mr Willis said that he regarded the cable sent by Mr Stovens as merely a notification of the Ministry’s policy, on which ho was not prepared to comment. “Mr Lang’s instructions to me have never gone beyond the request for time to pay. I never understood it as a policy of repudiation,” Mr Willis stated.

The terms of the unity pact between the United Australia Party and the United Country Party disclose that the Country Party agreed to withdraw* all its official candidates from the country seats at present held by United Australia Party members, thus ending a dispute of long standing. 1 In a statement, Mr M.
