CORRESPONDENCE.
EMPLOYMENT FOR YOUTHS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Perhaps some of your worthy readers will be able to inform me why so many business men are refusing to consider applications for employment by Young men, qualified or nearly qualified in accountancy, and who have found themselves out of employment through their firms being unable to weather the bitter wind of the depression? Do business men want to see these young men, who have spent years of the best of their lives acquiring their qualifications and training, thrown out to compete with the swarms of unemployed in weed l grubbing and road mending, thereby losing their individuality as professional and trained men? If only business men can prevent this ruinous state of affairs by giving these young men some small position with enough to keep themselves till times come back to normal, they will do tho country and tho Government a service which in years will reap its reward twofold. We all appreciate that times are not an improvement on former years, but we young men appeal to business people for assistance, to give us an opportunity of entering or re-entering the business world. Wo feel now, many of us, that our efforts to get our qualifications have been wasted inasmuch as we have got them and are not wanted, but are to be let go to do menial labour. None of us are downhearted, but feel good times are only around the corner, waiting for the world to forget the word “depression.” If you, business men, think our appeal justified for your worthy consideration, please &how it by answering our personal applications in the papers. Thanking you, Mr Editor, for allowing me to trespass on so much of your valuable space and time.—l am, etc., ONE OF MANY'.
