RONGOTEA SCHOOL.

The annual meeting- of householders took placo in the Rongotea School on Monday. Rongotea has a modern school building, a capablo and enthusiastic headmaster and staff, furniture and equipment of the finest, and the grounds surrounding tho i building are extensive and ornamental. The committee spare no efforts to maintain and also oxtend tho advantages enjoyed by scholars. There were nine householders present to elect tho now committee. The report and balance-sheet presented and adopted wero as follow:—“Nino general and one special committee meetings wore held, with a full attendance of members, except on two occasions. The health of tho children has boon excellent, and the attendance and conduct good. Improvements effected during the year include a now and convenient stilo, leading from the school grounds into the sports ground, and a concreto path 11 yards by 2 yards laid down leading from the school to the stile. Tho macrocarpa hedge between the horso paddock and tho school has been topped and one side trimmed. The final portion of the school grounds has been dug, part, boing used for garden pjets and the balance planted in potatoes preparatory to laying it down in lawn, garden, etc. General repairs includo work done to tho entrance gate, and tho gato leading into the horso paddock, and repairing and battening fences surrounding tho school. During the year a school concert _ was held and sufficient funds made available for tho prizes, which .wero given out at the annual break-up ceremony on December 18. In addition there Was a special prize donated to Miss May Bottchcr as dux of the school for tho year onding 1931. Tho calf and mangel clubs have been well represented this year, our school being in tho No. 2 group with the Glen Oroua and Kopane schools combined, No. 2 group boing tho winnor of tho champion type class in tho final judging at Feilding with a very fino calf exhibited by W. Scott, of Glen Oroua. R. Mossop, of tho Rongotea School, was placed second in tho care and condition class in the group judging, and Molly Slattery first in the record keeping. Tho mangel plots have yet to be judged for tho final results. It 13 pleasing to sco the interest taken by the scholars in theso competitions, and it is to bo hoped that they will be continued in the coming year. A petition to Parliament has been drawn up and well j signed, and is ready for presentation at a suitable opportunity. Tho committee wish jto acknowledge the help of tho following I gentlemen in matters affecting tho school: Messrs J. Mossop, C. Lind, C. G'iochetto, A. Simonson, J. Hughes. During tho holidays, tho ..school was thoroughly washed out and disinfected.” A .vote of thanks to tho old committee for their good work during tho past year was passed on the motion of Mr J. C. Glover. The election of a new committeo was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows: Messrs W. J. Amies, F. C. Saxton, J. Duko, \V. Mathcson, O. Tunnicliffo, A. Hill and J. C. Glover. At a subsequent 1 meeting of the committee, Mr Amies was elected chairman,' Mr Saxton secretary, and Mr Glover treasurer. _ A petition with tho object of cheapening the cost of school books was received by tho committee for signatures. It was decided to dig tho potatoes on tho school ground, as soon as possiblo, and • prepare tho ground for shrubs to be planted, Mr Harrison’s suggestions and offers in this matter being approved of.
