DISARMAMENT PLAN
LIMITATION BY STAGES. POWERS’ DELEGATES. DECISION AT GENEVA. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) GENEVA, April 19. Tho general committee of the Disarmament Conference has accepted the principle of arms cuts by stages. The Russian, Turkish, and German delegates pressed for a single convention settling tho disarmament problem once and for all, but the British, French, Italians, and others supported a resolution that “reduction of armaments can be achieved only by stages, and by means of frequent revisions,” which all tho delegates eventually accepted. ' t The British Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon, stressed that it was the first stage which counted, and that the first stage should see the fullest possible measure of reduction.
MR MACDONALD’S EYESIGHT. ReceTvecT April 20, 8.35 a.m. LONDON, April 19. The improvement in Mr Ramsay MacDonald’s eyesight lias not been maintained, but the specialists are allowing him to go to Geneva by aeroplane to-morrow, provided lie devotes three hours daily to relaxation. It will bo remembered that Mr MacDonald recently underwent an operation owing to eye trouble. STATESMEN CONFER AT GENEVA (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April ,18. Toward tho end of the week the Prime Minister •Mr Ramsay MacDonald, will leave for Geneva, and the speech he will deliver at the conference, probably on Friday, is. awaited with keen interest. The United States Secretary of State, Mr H. L. Stimson, arrived at Geneva on Saturday, and immediately got into touch with the leading statesmen who were gathered there. Among those with whom he consulted was Sir John Simon, British Foreign Secretary, who took luncheon with Mr Stimson, and was in conversation with him for two hours. SIR THOMAS WILFORD AT GENEVA.
