FOXTON

FOOTBALL CLUB, - (From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, April 6. At the annual meeting of tho Foxton Rugby Football Club, tho president (Mr F. Robinson) was in tho chair. In his review of tho past year’s activities, the chairman said that the club had experienced financial dilhcultiee, but this had not ulfectcd tho sport to any great extent. Tho juniors had won tho championship, with an unbeaten record, for tho second tiino in succession and much credit m this connection was duo to tho elforts of tho coach, Mr A. Walls. Despito tho fact that tho clubs finances were in a very low state, players had organised a series of matches in aid of tho local unemployed as a result of which a sum in the vicinity of £IOO had beon raised, which with tho Borough Council and Government subsidy meant that the club had beon instrumental in distributing between £3oo' and £4OO amongst those out of work in Foxton. Financo would be a big problem again and ho was not sure whether it would be wiso for tho club to affiliate wth tho Florowhenua Union. Possibly it would be a good idea to endeavour to arrange two or three local teams, play locally, pool tho funds and re-establish tho Foxton club next year. Mr H. Reid asked if tho Horowhcnua Union would place any obstacles in the way of local football. Mr Robinson said he did not think any objection would bo raised if tho position was explained to tho council. He would advise members to affiliate, however, nominate a team, and, if it was found necessary, withdraw later. It was decided to affiliate with tho union and the president’s report was adopted. Tho election of officers for tho ensuing year resulted as follows : —Patron, Mr J. Linklater, M.P.; president, Rev. Father Brennan; vice-presidents, Mosers W. Neville, S. Austin, D. Christie, F. It was pointed out that Foxton had been given a small increaso and the letters wero received. The committee expressed willingness to assist such an eftort and it was decided to approve tho recommendations and Air Smith and tho Aiayor were authorised to organiso same.
