PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET.
OTAGO v. WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 19. The Plunket Shield match between Otago and Wellington commenced this afternoon in dull and showery weather. Play was postponed owing to rain untill two p.m. Considering the conditions the wicket, though soft, was very easy, and the outfield was not as slow as might have been expected. Except for a bright innings by Badcock, who might have been dismissed earlier if chances had been accepted, Otago’s display at the start of the innings was discouraging, seven wickets faling for 65 runs. Dickinson and Moloney saved the side with a partnership that produced over 100. The innings close for 211. The oustanding bowler was J. Newman, of Nelson, who took five pickets for 51 off 32 overs. Wellington commenced its innings at 5.40, and at stumps had scored nine without loss. . The following are the scores:— OTAGO.—First. Innings.
