WOOL MARKET

SECOND WANGANUI SALE. POOR SORTS NEGLECTED. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Feb, 19, The bulk of the offering at to-night’s wool sale at Wanganui, the second of the season in this centre, comprised wools of low quality of 44 and 46 counts'. A full bench of buyers operated. but stylish first-grade wools, which were anything but prominent in the catalogue, were the only sorts than can be quoted firm on late sales. Inferior classes were neglected. There was a great deal of seedy and inferior yjool offered, and this snowed a drop ot Jd on the last Wanganui sale. Low crossbred was down |d to Id, and any low' wools touched with seed were, neglected at prices raging from 3d to 3Jd^ Good crossbred wool brought from 4d to 4Jd. V Crutchings found a poor sale. Bellies and pieces were &t par to Jd down compared with the January market here. There was a fair demand for lambs’ wool of good staple, but dingy . lots were Jd Tower. A review of the sale generally discloses that the quality of the wool was not of a standard to command respect under the'present conditions. . Buyers, particularly Bradford, operated on limits and filled their requirements from slips which showed quality. The Continent took the major share of the wool sold, Bradford in the earlier part of the sale at least, showing more hesitation than usual. Japan was in the market to some extent, and probably gave a fillip to the competition for some of the coaser clips and crutchings. BROKERS’ REPORTS. .. DALGETY AND CO., LTD. At the sale 20,500 bales were offered and 70 per cent, sold, report Dalgety and Com-' pany. Our offering was 1850 bales, of which 1650 were sold. The selection generally was poor, mostly shabby unskirted crossbreds, and seed was much in evidence. Bradford waa the largest buyer, Germany and France also operating. As compared with the Wellington sale, shabby crossed* were IJd lower, good style wools firm, lambs’ wool Jd dearer, bellies and pieces no change. Wools of 50 quality and above were keenly competed fbr.
