PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Feb. 18. Mr H. Cotter is a visitor to Wellington. Mr J. H. Walsh, elder son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Walsh, who . has been relieving for throe weeks at the Auckland branch of .the Union Bank, has been traneferred to Dannevirke. Mrs W. H. Deinpeey and her daughter, Mrs V. J. Scott, are visitors to Wellington. The first meeting of the Pahiatua Women’s Institute after the holidays was attended by about seventy members, Mrs p. Paterson presiding. In her opening remarks the president referred to the motto for the day “As every thread of gold is valuable, so is every minute o! time,’’ and she weloomed tho old and new members and the visiting members from quite a'number of the surrounding Institutes. Mrs J. D, C. Crewe .and Mrs Austin were nominated for positions on the Wellington Provincial Federation Executive Committee, to be decided by ballot at Palmerston North in April next. The secretary, Mrs Harrison, announced that tho nominations for members of tho committee of the Pahiatua. Institute must bo in her hands by March 1. Mrs Paterson, much to the regret of all members, announced that she would not bo a candidate for tho position of president at this election as she felt that it was in the best interests of the movement if there was a change of officers every few years. She made the announcement in a very happy and rather unusual way by smilingly stating that she “wished to give notioj. Mrs J. Bibby, of Waipawa; an old friond of the Pahiatua Institute, was then introduced to the more recent members by tho president arid she gave a very delightful “talk” on a trip through Scotland, bringing before metnbers little out-of-the-way uncommon peculiarities of the various towns and localities of this beautiful country. Afternoon tea was served by throe members of the committee, Mosdames Ross, Tattle and Vile and then Mrs Bibby entertained members by a number of her “lightning sketches’* in crayons.
