TRADE AGREEMENT.
BRAZIL AND CANADA. RIO DE‘ JANEIRO, Dec. 4. A provisional commercial agreement between Brazil and Canada was signed to-day. Canada’s trade with Brazil is considerable. A message from Ottawa states: Canada receives a minimum tairff on all goods exported to Brazil under the provisional trade treaty. Canada will also be given most favoured nation treatment, entitling the Dominion to free entry of Canadian fresh fruits. In return, Canada grants Brazil her intermediate tariff. The conclusion of the treaty coincides with the coming into effect of a new double column tariff system in Brazil. Previously imports from Brazil entered Canada under the general tariff.
The treaty was made provisional because a treaty of a more permanent character must have the approval of the Canadian Parliament before becoming effective. At the next session of Parliament a treaty, is is understood, will be submitted giving Brazil most favoured nation treatment.
