POLL CLERKS’ SMARTNESS,
(By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.)
"WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. Some good records in dealing with the voter have been accomplished by polling clerks in Bay Road, Ivilbirnie, in the Wellington East electorate. It is generally considered that if a polling clerk gets through the procedure of issuing 600 votes in the day’s poll, he lias been doing well, as the elector’s name has in every case to be looked up in the roll, and marked off, while the ballot paper has to be also dealt with carefully in the way of stamping and initialling before being handed to the voter. At this week’s poll in the Bay Road booth, one clerk handled 1,066 votes in the day, and another dealt with 863 ordinary voters, 23 absent voters’ papers and one declaration. Polling must have been steady all day, as the two officials dealt with 1929 votes between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
