BRITISH SUBMARINE.

JOINS RUSSIAN NAVY. The former British submarine Loo, which sank during the operations off Kronstadt in 1919 and was raised by the Bolshevists in 1928, was formally incorporated in the Soviet Navy at an impressive ceremony at Leningrad recently. After speeches by prominent Soviet naval officials the ceremony was concluded by the singing of the “Internationale,” and the hoisting of the Red Flag. The submarine Loo, commanded by Lieut-Commander C. M. S. Chapman, was sunk by a Russian destroyer in Kaporsky Bay in the Baltic in 1919, with the loss of all on board—43 lives. Nine years later, in 1928, the submarine was raised to the surface by Russian salvage workers, and taken into dock at Kronstadt. The skeletons of the crew were found on board and were reverently guarded by officers and men of the Russian Navy while the British Government was consulted with regard to burial.
