PRESENTATION.
RETIRING INSPECTOR HONOURED.
A presentation from the mechanical engineers to Mr W. Hendry, senior inspector of machinery at 1 almerston North was made yesterday afternoon at the office of the Machinery Inspection Department, Main Street. Mr W. Hendry has held the office of senior inspector of machinery at Palmerston North for over eight years and has iust retired from the service on superannuation. There were present representatives of engineering organisations in Palmerston North and P eliding as follow': Messrs E. D. Berry 0. R. Luke E. R. B. Holben, C. E. Taylor, J Pointon, Chas. Hubbard W. Campbell, Gavin (Feilding), J. Wilson (Feilding) and J. Day. Messrs Gavin and Wilson represented the Feilding freezing works and Mr W. Campbell the Longblirn freez*nfjj D Berry, on behalf of those present,’ made the presentation of a handsome gold-mounted fountain pen and eulogised the sterling qualities of Mr Heudry, and particularly expressed appreciation of the courteous way in which he had always met the engineers Continuing, Mr Berry spoke highly of the efficiency with which Mr Hendry had executed his duties in the capacity of senior Inspector of Machinery at Palmerston North, and stated that his eenial disposition had won him the highest esteem of all his associates. In conclusion, Mr Berry expressed to Mr Hendry every good wish for his future welfare and regret that he retiring from the service. i Other speakers endorsed Mr Berry s r<3 M a r rl Hendry, in reply, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the gathering foi their kind remarks and also for the valuable gift they had given him. He stated that his work here had been a pleasure and he regretted leaving so many associates and friends. It is understood that Mr and Mrs Hendry will be leaving almost immediately for Auckland where they intend to make their home.
