PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Deo. 2. Mrs J. A. Mclnnes, Tui Street, left yesterday to spend a holiday in Auckland. The vital statistics for Pahiatua for the past month, with the corresponding figures for November of last year, are as follows .—Births 9 (15); marriagos 0 (2); deaths, 2 (5). The matriculation examination commenced at tho District High School on Monday. There are eight candidates sitting, two boys from the local school and six ’males from the town. There are no girl candidates this year. Miss E. Chatwin is again acting as supervisor. The euchre tournament held in the Masonic Hall last evening under the auspices of the Swimming Club attracted a good attendance. The first prize in tho ladies’ section went to Mrs T. Dakin, the second award being won by Mrs A. P. Walsh. The gentlemen's prize was won by Mr Walters, tho second trophy being secured by Mr C. Johnski, junr. The annual meeting of St. Paul’s congregation was held on Monday evening in St. Paul’s Sunday Schoolroom. Although the attendance was not quite so large as in previous years, yet a fine spirit prevailed throughout the meeting and the business was transacted in record time. The following nine managers were elected: Dr. H. Paterson, Messrs T. I. McGibbon, M Priest, J. H. Bremner, J. A. Gibson, and J. J.’Sutherland, Mesdames A. East, W. Fergus and A. S. Wilson. To these were to be added the ex-officio members from tho session, Messrs H. R. Wilton. L. H. Holdawey, H. Henderson and J. E. Mncdonald. The retiring members of the board of managers were thanked for their services throughout tho year.
