Air F. J. E. Baillie, B.Sc., at present on the staff of the Southland Boys’ High School, lias received notice of his appointment as assistant master in the Suva Boys’ Grammar School, Fiji. ■ ' Captain L. G. Goss, N.Z. Staff Corps, who has returned after a course in England, lias been appointed Assistant-Adjutant and Quartermas-ter-General, Central Command, A\ ellington. Mr I. C. Raftesath, manager of the Standard Bank of South Africa at Nakuru, Kenya, East Africa, armed by the Maunganui from Sydney this week to spend live mouths’ holiday in the Dominion.
Air James Doyle, who died in the Napier Hospital recently, aged b 7 years, resided for many years in the Alanawatu district, but a few years ago removed to Alfred ton. He is survived by a widow and a grown-up family of two daughters and tour sons —Airs J.' Bond, Napier; Aliss Annie Doyle, Alfredton; Air James Doyle, Levin; Alessrs Walter and Oswald Doyle, Shanon; and Air Lindsay Doyle, Ohakune Junction. The appointment- of Air B C. Ashwin, AI.Com., A.R. A.N.Z., previously assistant accountant to the (treasury, to the position of second asssistant secretary has been announced. Air Asliwin was born at Paeroa in the Ohinemun district. He obtained his primary and secondary education at the Cambridge District High School and later attended Victoria University College. He qualified as a professional accountant m 1921, and graduated master of commerce with honours in 1924. Air Ashwin joined the Public Service as a cadet in the Education Department in 1912. He enlisted in the Expeditionary Force in 191 G, served in France, and was wounded shortly before the cessation of hostilities in 1918. He resumed duty with the Education Department in 1919, and was transferred on promotion to the National Provident Fund in 1920. In 1922 he joined the Treasury staff and was promoted inspector in 1924, chief inspector in 19-ti, and assistant accountant in 1930.
