FEILDING FREEZING WORKS.
PROJECTED PURCHASE. Subject to the consent of a special meeting of shareholders, to be held later this month, the Feilding Farmers’ Freezing Company, Ltd., works at Aorangi, have been sold to Messrs Thos. Borthwick and Sons, Ltd. The price to be paid for the works is not announced, but it is understood that the shareholders will secure a return of about 40 per cent, of their invested capital, which means that each £1 share will be worth approximately Bs. The works were established in 1916 and were officially opened by the late Mr W. F. Massey, who was then Prime Minister. "The first chairman of directors of the Farmers’ Company was Mr M. A. Conway, of Kiwitea, who was followed by Mr H. Burrell, of Cheltenham. Hon. J. G. Cobbe succeeded Mr Burrell, but two years ago Mr Burrell again assumed the office of chairman of directors which he still holds.
It will he recalled that Messrs Borthwick suffered the loss of their Pakipaki freezing works in Hawke’s Bay during the earthquake and this building in which there were employed 28 butchers has not been re-erected.
