There was a thrilling contest over the famous Ards circuit of 410 miles. In the presence of nearly 500,000 spectators, including the Spanish ex-Royal-ties, English peers and peeresses, and the Governor of Northern Ireland, the world’s fastest motor-cars strove for victory. One caught fire and, blazing furiously, skidded and crashed through the hedges bordering the track. A stand containing 60 spectators collapsed, many being injured. The contest ended in a triumph for “baby cars,” the Englishman winning after a headlong contest with the Italian, while'last year’s winner, the Italian ace, Nuvolari, retired with a seized piston.
