AMERICAN UNEMPLOYED.
SENATOR’S GIFT. NEW YORK, Aug. 22. A message from Detroit states that Senator Couzens, formerly Mr Henry Ford’s partner, to-day offered 1,000,000 dollars for the relief of the unemployed in Detroit during the coming winter. Senator Couzens informed the Mayor of Detroit that he had unsuccessfully tried to secure the sitting of a special session of Congress to deal with the question of unemployment from the national point of view. “But,” he added, “it is more important to me that the unemployed be properly cared for than that my views be adopted.” He asked that an additional 9,000,000 dollars bo raised for the same purpose.
