In the third round of the National Women’s championiships at Forest Hills, Mrs Shepherd-Barron (England) beat Mrs Jessup 6—B, 6 —o, 6—3, completing the match which was begun on Wednesday. Miss P. Mudford (England) beat Miss Sarah Palfrey (United States) 6—2, 7—5.

Miss Betty Nuthall (England) beat Mrs Josephine Cruickshank (California), 6—3, 6—2, giving the British four of the eight quarter final places. In the doubles matches, Miss O. Round and Mrs Helen Jacobs beat Mrs Pittman and Miss Joan Ridley, 6—3, 6—3.

Mrs Sliepherd-Barron and Miss Mudford beat Miss Florence le Boutillier (Westbury) and Miss Barabara Stoddard (New York), 6—2, 6—l. Mrs Eileen Bennett Wliittingstall and Miss Nuthall beat Mrs Wightman and Miss Edith Sigourney (Boston), 6—2, 6—2. PERRY STILL WINNING. SEMI-FINAL STAGE. Received August 21, 10.50 a.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 20. In the semi-finals of the Casino invitation tournament at Newport, F. J. Perry (England) beat Wood by default. Perry led 6—3, 5—7, 2—6, 6—l, 6—5 and needed a singlo point for victory, when Wood suffered a severe leg cramp. \ ines beat Van Ryn 6—3, 7—9, 3—6, 6—2, 6—l.

In the second round of the doubles, Perry and Hughes beat Gilbert Hall and E. D. Feidleman (New York) 6—3, 6—3.
