ITALIAN UNEMPLOYED.
SCHEME OF RELIEF PLANNED
Although the Italian Government has hitherto opposed the dole, it is now recognised that a co-ordinated scheme of relief is necessary to deal with the unemployed, says the Rome correspondent of the London Times. The total of unemployed in Italy is now 700,000.
Signor Giuriati, the Facist secretary, has circularised Facist secretaries throughout Italy, . drawing attention to the importance of doing their utmost to relieve the unemployed families during the forthcoming winter. He urges Facist organisations to unite in a vast scheme of assistance.
Relief plans are well advanced in Rome, where there have been gifts of money and other contributions, including large quantities of wheat. Probably public kitchens will be opened. Nevertheless, people are warned against any alarmist view as Fascismo “always prepare for the worst.”
