Spencer Bone was fined £2O, or a month/s gaol, to-day for publicly using the initials intending to convey that he had a university degree. A detective said that Bone was known as Dr Bone and conducted a course in astrology. In a circular he described himself as M.A., P.R.1.5., F.R.S.. and undertook publicity to read cnarts and invited people to become members of the New Zealand Astrological Association at £1 per year. Defendant was formerly in Christchurch running a theatrical school, proposing to produce movies, but it came to nothing. Defendant requested an adjournment to enable him to secure his diplomas from America. Mr Hunt, S.M., said that he would grant an adjournment if defendant would swear on oath that he had the diplomas, but he warned him that if it were untrue v he would risk a prosecution for perjury. Defendant declined to enter the box and when he was fined he declared that he would produce his diplomas later.
