APPOINTMENT OF REFEREES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. The selection of referees for the Australian Rugby touring team’s engagements is being made by the New Zealand appointment board except in the case of the Test match at Auckland, for which the visitors will have the option of choosing the referee. The appointments are as follow : —v. Otago Saturday next, Mr J. L. Oughton (Invercargill); Southland, next Wednesday, Mr A. B. Rowlands (South Canterbury); Canterbury, August 29, Mr L. E. Macassey (Otago); West CoastNelson combined, September 2, Mr T. A. Fletcher (Wellington); Wellington, September 5, Mr R. G. Collins (Canterbury)'. SELECTION OF MAORIS. On their way to Christchurch as challengers for the Prince of Wales Cup the Tai-Rawbiti East Coast Maori Rugby football representatives were in Wellington to-day. They leave for the South to-night. The challenge match will be played with the Te Waipounamu (South Island) Maori representatives (holders of the cup) on Saturday. A team representative of the Maoris of all districts will be chosen after the game and will leave Christchurch on Tuesdav for the West Coast to play West Coast, then Buffer, then Marlborough and proceed to Otaki for the final training for the match with the Australian team at Palmerston North on September 9. It was stated that Neoia is available for selection in the New Zealand team for the test with Australia at Auckland.
