Pitman (England), 6—o, 5—7, 6—l. Mrs Helen Wills-Moody beat Miss Joan Ridley (England), ti—3, 6—o. Miss Dorothy Weisel (Sacramento, California) beat Miss Dorothy Round (England), 6—4, 6—3. Mrs Eileen Bennett Wliittingsall (England) beat Miss Alice France (Oregon, New Jersey), 6—l, 6—3. Rain and a wind storm forced the postponement of other matches. PLAY AT NEWPORT. PERRY STILL WINNING. Received August 20, 11.55 a.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 19. At Newport, in the quarter finals of the Casino invitation tournament, F. J. Perry beat Lott, 6—l, C—i, 6—2. Vines beat Shields, 3—C, 6—l, 6—3, 6—o. Van Ryn beat Bryant Grant (Atlanta, Georgia), B—lo, o—6, 6—l, 6—3, 6—2.
