TRAGIC AFFAIR.

LONDON, Aug. 18. Three children playfully swung on a wire close to the ground at Bilston, in Staffordshire, not knowing that it was a cable which was being stretched on nearby pylons. The cable suddenly, became taut and soared skyward. The children, too frightened to let go, were lifted 70 feet. Workmen, noticing their plight, made frantic efforts to have the cable lowered, but the children were unable to hold on long enough and fell. One of them was killed, and the other two are dying.
