CRUSHED BY TRUCKS.

RAILWAY CLERK’S DEATH. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 18. Caught between two goods trucks while engaged iitfshunting operations at Te Kauwhata (.54 miles south from Auckland) a railway clerk, Eric Reid Grindley, aged about 29, was killed instantaneously to-night. He suffered terrible injuries to the head and body. Mr Grindley, who was officer in charge of the station for the evening, was encaged in attaching additional trucks to the goods train which leaves Frankton Junction at 3 p.m. for Mcrcer and Auckland. When the accident occurred lie was struck by tlic buitcis of the trucks at the near end of two portions of the train. The force of the impact was sufficient to cause the derailment of the two colliding trucks. Mr Grindley, whose parents reside in Dunedin, was married, but had no family. He had been stationed at Te Kauwhata for about four yea-rs. The derailment of the trucks resulted in some delay, but the train later continued its journey to Auckland.
