BULLS.

VALEDICTORY. (From Our Own Correspondent). BULLS, Aug. 1. Over seventy persons, niciuding several from Bulls, gathered in the Barewanui schoolroom on \\ eanesday evening to bid farewell to Mr F. Lovell and Mrs Lovell and their daughter, Mavis, on tho eve of their departure for Upper Tutaenui, where Mr Lovell, who has relinquished the management of the Parewanui cheese factory, has accepted a position for the coming season. 'lhe evening was spent in the usual social manner, the time being enjoyably passed in progressive euchre, musical items and dancing. Mrs J. Governor won the ladies’ prize at cards, and Mr J. B. G. Signal the gentlemen’s. The latter prize was kindly donated by Mr S. R. Hodges. Music was provided by Mrs Governor and Miss Eileen Murphy, and songs by Mrs Kingi, Will Apirana and Mr Naumann. Mr W. Homes, in a happy little speech, wished Mr Lovell and family good health and success in their future sphere, and expressed the regret of Parewanui residents at their departure. He said that they would be greatly missed in the social life of the district, being foremost in school affairs and other matters. Mr Homes then asked Mr Lovell to accept a handsome fountain pen; Airs Lovell a wedge wood supper set; and Miss Mavis Lovell a box of embroidered handkerchiefs. Miss Betty Young presented Mrs Lovell with a bouquet on behalf of the pupils of the school. Mr H. Bowen also eulogised the guests of the evening, paying a high tribute to Mr Lovell for the work he had done while at Parewanui. He had aljvays done his duty here, and the speaker said that he knew that Mr Lovell would do so wherever he was. His departure was a distinct loss to the district, and he supported the previous speaker in wishing Mr and Mrs Lovell and Miss Lovell good luck in the future. Mr Lovell feelingly replied. He regretted leaving them all. but in these times of stress one had to make tho best of the opportunities given, and one had to strive to go ahead. He thanked them for their very nice remarks and for their gifts, and hoped that he would renew friendships with Parewanui residents on future occassions. The gathering closed with cheers for the guests, and for the organiser of the farewell, Mrs W. Homes. ’ BULLS TENNIS CLUB. The Bulls Tennis Club Ball, which will be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, promises to be a great success. The best of music and other incidentals is promised, and committees are working hard to make the function an enjoyable one for patrons. PERSONAL. Mr G.' McKenzie, who suffered a broken jaw recently through a horse falling with him, is now improving. Mr Leslie Byrnes, whose arm was severely burned through benzine spilling and igniting, is also much improved. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The committee of the Bulls Branch of the Women’s Institute met on Wednesday. Present: Mesdames Ralfe, Broughton, Escott, Campion, Ingram, and Miss Tricker. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Mesdames Mackay, Hendry, Marumaru and Lundy. Mrs Mackay was elected a vice-president, and Mrs Hendry treasurer. Mesdames Carson and Russell wore added to the committee. At the ordinary monthly meeting Mrs Marumaru will give a demonstration of cane and raffia work. ’lhe hostesses for the meeting will be the committee.
