FLIGHT TO ORIENT.

COLONEL LINDBERGH’S PLANS. NEW~ YORK, July 22. Colonel Charles Lindbergh announced to-day that lie and his wife would take off next week on their flight to the Orient. The exact day is not named. Tlie route lies over Canada, the Hudson Bay district, Northern Alaska, and down the eastern coast of Siberia to Tokio. China also will bo visited.

Colonel and Mrs Lindbergh are taking every precaution to ensure success of their projected flight to the Orient. The mod ingenious is in case their ’plane dived into tlie sea. They would merely swim to the surfaco and finding a bundle already floating there in which are means of sustenance, transportation and even communication with the world. Undoing this bundle, which is automatically released from a tail compartment when the ’plane submerges, they will inflate the outer wrapping, which is a collapsible rubber boat. Inflation is effected by a bottle of compressed air. Climbing into the boat they will find a mast and sail, emergency rations and a radio set capable of communication about 500 miles in the day time and 3000 miles at night. The set is both crash proof and watertight. Colonel and Mrs Lindbergh will carry two radio sets, one for use in the ’plane with a range from 3000 to 7000 miles, and tie other tho emergency set ,for use in case of accident afield or afloat.
