USE OF WOOL.
CAMPAIGN BEING PLANNED
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 4. Members of Parliament were approached yesterday by Miss G. V. Howey, on behalf of the organisers of a comprehensive plan for stimulation of the demand for New Zealand wool, and asked to give their support to a proposal for an export levy of 3d a bale for the purpose of conducting a national “use more wool” campaign. It was hoped to raise £12,000 in this manner.
Miss Howey said that the crusade, which was launched at Christchurch as a preliminary to a wider movement, had the definite object of convincing people that some of the finest wearing materials possible were made from wool and that it was quite unnecessary for the sake of industrial recovery to “wear wool and suffer a patriotic itch.” Cabhrets, carnivals, pageants, exhibitions, as well as specialty functions for children, with particular attention to the theme of the story of the 'Golden Fleece, had been arranged, and special films would be shown in conjunction with the Government Publicity Department. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe had promised wholehearted support. Several members promised, to afford the scheme every encouragement.
