ONE-BALL INNINGS.
RAIN FOILS CAPTAINS’ “CONSPIRACY.”
Rain on June 19 foiled the plans of AVyatt and Fender, the rival captains, and the AYarwickshire-Surrey match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The captains had announced that, rain having wiped out the first two days’ play in the match, if play was possible on the third and last day they would follow the precedent of Yorkshire and Gloucestershire. The captains of those counties decided to give one of the teams a sporting chance of securing the 15 points awarded for an outright win. when rain prevented play on the first two days of their match. Gloucestershire went in to bat, and the first ball was deliberately allowed to go to the boundary for four byes. The first innings was then declared closed. A 7 orkshire went in, and followed the same procedure. In the second innings Gloucestershire made 171 and A T orkshire 124.
