SUB-STATION STRENGTHENED
WORK AT BUNNYTHORPE. The electric power in the .surrounding districts was cut off at 10.30 o’clock last night in order to enable the last two steel columns to be erected at the Bunnythorpe sub-station. The work of erecting these has been done in order to make the present building as earthquake resisting a.s possible. In order to get the heavy steel members in position, a considerable amount of apparatus had to be out adrift and replaced afterwards. The work was not completed owing to a shortage of time, but the balance can be done without further inconvenience to consumers. The power board’s staff had an unenviable job, rain falling continunnslv hut as many large consumers had co-operated in arranging their loads to suit, the work had to be carried out to time-table. The sub-station is now considered to he as strong as it can be made as a hriek building. The bracing of the S k has .been erected in accordance wRh the recommendations of the commission which studied the question + he big earthquake in Japan. a The opportunity by the l ~+tlne down of the sub-station was S utilised to connect up earth lenkalso automatic equipment to contiol the power to the Feilding borough.
