DENNISTON MINERS IDLE.
Per Press Association. WESTPORT, April 19. Owing to a dispute at Dennision over the hours worked by the men at the power-house, the Westport Coal Company’s Denniston mines have been idle since April 4. Tire union took exception to the men being called out for less than eight hours, and made a request on April G that in future employees in the powerhouse should he guaranteed a shift’s wages irrespective of the time worked. This was declined, and the men ceased work.
The management contend that the men should have worked pending reference of the matter to the disputes committee, but the men contend that prior to the reference to the disputes committee the old order of full shifts should have been observed. Efforts to effect an amicable settlement have so far failed.
