THE SOCCER CODE.
ST. ANDREW’S BEAT ATHLETIC.
Although the soccer league competition in Alnnawatu will not commence until the beginning of May, Saturday's match attracted a fair number of spectators to North Street Park. There was no doubt that St. Andrew’s were the better combination. The teams were as follow:
St. Andrew’s (blue and white). —Holland, Backhouse. Thomson, Corkindnlo, Lyons, Smillie, Stewart, McSheffrey, McDonald, Claridge, and Russell. Athletic (black).—Martin, Heavsev, Watt, Repsch, Day, Beer. A. Reid. Harriman, T. Crowe, Radford and Geekie. The first spell provided plenty of thrills, but little result, Henrsey, Athletic’s custodian, proving excellent in that position. Time and again he defended his citadel, and the only occasion during the spell when ho was beaten was when Lyons sent in a difficult .shot. The second half opened promisingly and Athletic endeavoured to invade, but Claridge, in the back line, proved a sterling partner for Holland (in goal). On the other hand. Watt was a little slow and, although Beer worked hard, Stewart penetrated on three occasions by splendid hustling tactics. Russell also beat Hearse” the game ending in St. Andrew’s favour by five goals to nil. Mr E. W. Ivey refereed. JUNIOR GAMES. Prior to the senior game, the juniors engaged in two matches and displayed considerable keenness and a good knowledge of the code. In the primary grade. The Rest heat College Street, 4 —o. and in the fifth division Te Awe Awe Scouts heat Central Scouts, 3 —o, and Te Awe Awe Reserves beat The Rest, 2-0.
