CHARGE OF THEf;T. con ; ictiotTentered. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided at the sitting of the Magistrate s Court to Thomas Clark, of Shannon, was charged with the theft of six gallons of benzine and two gallons of oil, o total value of 235, the property of Miranui, Ltd. He pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by L. ana v*. Nicholson, of Shannon, that accused had given benzine and oil m lieu cash payments for amounts owing. A. Rowlands, stock manager for Miranui, Ltd., stated that accused had no authority as a tractor driver to give benzine and oil instead of casn payments, as accounts should be sudmitted to the company. ~ Frederick W r illiam Newport said that accused had supplied him w Accused stated that one of the Nicholson Bros, paid a blacksmith toi him and he had offered to reimburse him, but the former had said that a drop or two of benzine would do m‘‘There seems to be no doubt that you did take this benzine and oil, stated the Magistrate to accused, nno was convicted and ordered t-o come p for sentence at any time within simnnths if called upon, in addition to refunding the value of the petrol and paying £8 2s, the costs of the prosecution. _ DISMISSAL OF CASE.

Lawrence Jamieson, of Eketahuna, was charged with behaving in a disorderly manner on the road between Rangitane and Tokomani. Constable Blaikie stated that <lefendant was one of a number wno had been responsible for mischiet round Shannon. .. Senior-Sergeant Wliitehouse said that defendant had been apociated with several others who' had pulled down letter boxes on the mam road. Frederick Brent Grotian, farmer, of Komako, was charged with driving a car at the intersection of Bioadway and Princess Street at a speed which, having regard to all the circumstances, migiit have been dangerous to the public. Mr Cooper appeared for defendant, who had been involved in a collision, and pointed out the application of the right hand rule. For riding cycles at night without lights A. K. Spilman and J. Rush were each fined 10s, with 3s costs. Failure to deliver up a uniform resulted in proceedings being taken by the Defence Department against A. E. Y. Boyd, who was ordered to pay the value of the clothing to the department. Failure to produce his driver’s license resulted in P. J. Turnock being fined 10s, with 12s costs. Alfred Ernest Hyde was charged with failing to keep a vigilant look* out at the Shannon railway crossing and attempting to cross when the line was not clear. Defendant was fined £2, with 10s costs. David Christopher Pinker was charged with assaulting a newspaper runner. The defendant denied the assault, stating that he merely pushed the youth’s cycle with his foot. The Magistrate inflicted a fine of £5 and 3e costs, ordering £2 of the amount to be awarded tne complainant.
