Mr and Mrs C. A. Grainger, Opunake, are the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Gilbert, “Remore,” Mangamutu. The Misses E. and Y. Corbett, of Wellington, are the guests of Mr and Mrs E. S. Lett, Kaitawa. Mr Fairfax Fenwick, of Rongotea, is spending the New Year in Pahiatua and participating in the tennis tournament. Rev. H. W. Monaghan, vicar of Timaru, and formerly vicar of Pahiatua, has been appointed Archdeacon of Timaru. Mr Faulkner Bush, who is visiting Pahiatua, will after the Christmas vacation be attached to the teaching staff of the Waihou School. Miss Rogers and Miss Barbara Rogers, of Wellington, aro the guests of Miss Clifford, Cambridge Street. Beautiful weather favoured the first day’s play of the annual tournament of the Pahiatua Lawn Tennis Club held on the club’s grass courts yesterday (New Year’s Day). This year there is an exceptionally large number of entries, particularly from members of various outside clubs. The second rounds in each section were reached yesterday. PAHIATUA, Jan. 3.

Mrs Anderson, of Napier, has bean spending the holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. McCardle, Manganiutu. Mr and Mrs West, of To Awamutu, have been staying with Mr and Mrs A. Campbell, Main Street. Mr and Mrs G. Ironsides, of Wanganui, are spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs C. H. Arrow, “Hillcrcst.” Mr A. A. Reese, of Te Awamutu, arrived in Pahiatua yesterday on a brief visit to relatives. In beautiful weather the sixteenth annual tournament of the Pahiatua Lawn Tennis Club was continued on Friday and good progress was made on the second day. There were one or two surprises, though in most cases ft can be said the better man won.
