(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Jan. 5. Miss E. Owen, of St. Helen’s Hospital, Wellington daughter of Mr and Airs R. Owen, of Foxton, has received advice that sho has passed her midwifery examination with honours. Tho funeral of tho late Mr John Mathers took place yesterday and was attended by a largo number of friends and relatives of deceased. Tho late Mr Mathers had been a resident of Foxton for tho greater part of his fife and at one time was in business locally as a taxi proprietor. Ho had suffered from ill-health for somo tinio and as a result had been compelled to undergo sevora operations. Ho was in Foxton for Christmas and his sudden death in Palmerston North Hospital came as a shock to those who knew him. He loaves a wife. Mrs W. Mathers, of Himatangi. Mr A. Mathers, of Foxtcf-, is a brother of deceased and Mrs Ensor, of Palmerston Ndrth, a sister.

On Saturday a grass fire again broke out in tho northern end of what was once known as Cameron’s plantation and not firo to tho pine logs lying about.
